Why more people house-hunting in the snow this year?
Have you ever noticed how quiet the world gets right after it snows? Usually, everyone is inside drinking hot cocoa and watching movies under a big blanket. But if you look outside in Ohio in the winter months, you might see something pretty cool - people are actually out looking at houses!
Why are so many people swapping their beach towels for snow shovels? It turns out, winter is the "secret season" for real estate in Ohio. Here is why the snow is actually making things more fun for everyone!
1. There are so many more houses to see!
Did you know there are way more houses for sale in the winter months than there were last year? All across Ohio, we have almost 20% more homes to pick from! In the spring, house hunting can feel like a giant race. But in the winter, it’s more like a fun walk. You can take your time and find exactly what you like without feeling rushed.
2. You get to see the "real" house
Every house looks pretty in the summer when the flowers are blooming and the grass is green. But does it stay warm when the Ohio wind starts blowing? House hunting in the winter is like a "truth test" for a home. You can find out:
-
Is it cozy? You can feel if the heater works great or if there are "cold spots."
-
Are the windows good? It’s easy to tell if they are drafty when it’s 20 degrees outside!
-
Is it bright enough? Since the sun goes down early, you can see how much light the house gets during the darker months.
3. You get a "breathing break"
In the spring, houses can sell in just a few hours! But in the winter, things slow down a little bit. Homes might stay on the market for a longer time. This gives you plenty of time to think, measure for your big couch, and decide if you really love it before saying "yes."
4. Moving is much easier!
Have you ever tried to find a moving truck in July? It’s almost impossible! In the winter, moving companies aren't nearly as busy. They usually have lots of open spots on their calendars, and they might even give you a better price since they have extra time to help. Plus, they usually have a lot of "holiday cheer" to share!
What do you think?
Does a house feel more like a "home" when it’s covered in pretty white snow? If you’re curious about what’s popping up in your favorite neighborhood, or if you want to know more about the winter price drops people are talking about, we are always here to chat.
Stay warm out there! ❄️
